It may or may not be true that he was the worst film director of all time, but at the very least nobody made movies quite like Ed Wood.
Each of his films are as idiosyncratic as they are inept. But Glen or Glenda, a surprisingly progressive — even radical — film about cross dressing, is Wood’s most personal work. It may not be so bad it’s good, (nobody could honestly call a Wood film good) but it’s definitely so bad it’s interesting, and so bad it’s entertaining too.
Intended as a sincere docudrama, sold as an exploitation film, it is now remembered as an unintentional and uniquely bizarre comedy. The second film in our Hot, Sweaty and Weird summer series, Glen or Glenda puts the emphasis firmly on the “weird.”
