Scottish performing songwriter David Leask will take his audience on a transatlantic journey at Knox Hall in Sudbury on April 6th, 2024 to celebrate Tartan Day a day dedicated to the celebration of Scottish heritage and their cultural contributions to history.
With a Celtic soul and a storyteller's heart, David has produced seven critically-acclaimed albums, won multiple international songwriting awards and received the Mississauga's Performing Artist of the Year Award in 2022. Songwriters Magazine called David, "the most consistent Canadian songwriting competition winner." His seventh record, “Voyageur in Song”, received 4 Star reviews from FATEA, Maverick, and Roots ‘n Reel Magazines, as well as being nominated for Contemporary Album of the Year at the 2022 Canadian Folk Music Awards.
In this celebration of all things Scottish, David will bring his groove-based interpretations of Scottish tunes such as Loch Lomond, Wild Mountain Thyme and Caledonia and combine them with his eclectic Celtic soul originals. And of course, his sharp Scottish wit will be on display in the telling of his own transatlantic journey. “I take people on an emotional journey – jumping genres, switching up instruments, delivering laughter and sometimes even tears.” said David Leask.
Accompanying David at the concert on flute, whistle, accordion and saxophone will be multi-instrumentalist Sean O’Connor. O'Connor has shared the stage with jazz musicians Kenny Wheeler, Ray Anderson and Sam Rivers. He has been a favorite at both the Montreal and Toronto Jazz Festivals and has also graced the stage with Murray McLaughlin, The Temptations, Ron Sexsmith, Molly Johnson and Jason McCoy.
"Local audiences will be familiar with David's music having seen him perform in numerous local venues which have included the Out of Cold Concert Series" said Derek Young the show's promoter. Former concert promoter Bob Bale once said "Few performers can capture and hold an audience as well as David Leask - a quadruple threat on stage with an outstanding voice, original songs, and stellar guitar and piano playing."Young added.
