Composer/pianist Ben Macy brings his unique improvisational take on various genres of music ranging from chamber music to folk to post-rock, all nestled surprisingly well next to your jazz favorites. Joined by some of the finest musicians from all over the Northwest, Ben's deep roots in the music of Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett act as a springboard to draw listeners in to these deeply personal, musical stories.
Ben has been writing songs for over 20 years, with a book of over 100 tunes. Ben's playing has been described as "coolly rippling, deeply reflective"(Willamette Week) and "stealing the show with blazin' digits, sharp but subtle" (Source Weekly). His fellow musicians also laud his skills, saying he "expands the parameters of the music" (Ron Steen, drummer) and "plays purposeful music stemming from good writing" (Darrell Grant, pianist)
This quartet features:
Ben Macy - piano
Skyler Mendell - trumpet
Greg Lyman - bass
Tyson Stubelek - drums
Ben's music brings a rare sense of sincerity to every show. With songs that can be whimsical as well as melancholy, every show gives audiences a chance to connect deeper to both the music and themselves. Whether he's playing solo, with his trio, or with a full string quartet, Ben's concert appearances are not to be missed.
