Grease (1978)

After a fleeting summer romance on the beach, Danny Zuko (John Travolta) and Sandy Olsson (Olivia Newton-John) begin the school year at Rydell High still dreaming of their lost summer love. The story follows Sandy, Danny, and their friends (the T-Birds and Pink Ladies) through the school year, chronicling Danny and Sandy’s attempts to rekindle their love and the struggles of teenage life in the 1950’s. Adapted for the big screen from the 1971 Broadway smash-hit of the same name, Grease was a critical and commercial darling. It remained the highest-grossing live-action musical in the United States until 2017. It is no surprise that the original soundtrack was the second-best selling album of 1978 considering iconic songs like the Academy Award-nominated “Hopelessly Devoted to You” and “Summer Loving.”
