Paranormal Investigation

Four Haunted Locations. One Haunted Evening.

Saturday, November 7, 2026 | Historic Hanover, Virginia

Centuries of history. Countless stories. Some questions still unanswered.

For nearly 300 years, the buildings surrounding Hanover Courthouse have witnessed the lives of countless individuals. Travellers and tavern keepers. Prisoners and judges. Soldiers, families, and ordinary people whose names have largely faded from memory.

But have all their stories been told?

On November 7, join Transcend Paranormal & Miller Paranormal for an extraordinary evening exploring four historic locations in one investigation: Hanover Tavern, the Old Stone Jail, the Historic Hanover Courthouse, and the Hanover Branch Library.

Together, we'll explore the history of these buildings, examine reports of unexplained activity, and invite you to conduct your own investigation alongside experienced paranormal investigators.

Whether you're a seasoned investigator, a curious skeptic, or someone simply fascinated by history, you're welcome to join us.

Four Buildings. Centuries of Stories.

The Hanover Tavern

The history of Hanover Tavern stretches back to 1733, with the oldest surviving portion of the building dating to 1791. For generations, this historic gathering place welcomed travellers, politicians, soldiers, and local residents. Its history is intertwined with figures such as Patrick Henry, George Washington, and the Marquis de Lafayette.

The Tavern has witnessed the changing fortunes of a nation, from the colonial period through the Civil War and beyond.

Today, visitors and investigators continue to share stories of unusual experiences within its walls.

Could some of the Tavern's former occupants still have stories to tell?

The Old Stone Jail

Constructed in 1835, the Old Stone Jail offers a stark reminder of a very different era.

Its thick stone walls enclosed cramped cells where prisoners endured harsh conditions. For decades, barred openings offered little protection from the cold, and the building housed people whose circumstances and stories were often far more complicated than the labels placed upon them.

What was life like for those confined within these walls? What fears, hopes, and memories might have accompanied them?

During our investigation, you'll have the opportunity to explore this remarkable building after dark.

The Historic Hanover Courthouse

Dating to the late 1730s and early 1740s, the Historic Hanover Courthouse is among the oldest surviving courthouses in the United States.

Within its walls, Patrick Henry argued the famous Parsons' Cause in 1763, an important moment in the growing resistance to British authority. The courthouse also witnessed the upheaval of the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and generations of local history.

For centuries, decisions made here changed lives.

And as we investigate the courtroom after dark, we'll ask a simple question: Could echoes of that history remain?

The Hanover Branch Library

Completed in 1942, the Hanover Branch Library may be the youngest of our four locations, but the land beneath it has a much older story.

Once associated with the Hanover Tavern property, the grounds sit near the historic Thilman Burial Grounds, the resting place of former Tavern owners and family members.

The Library reminds us that history doesn't begin when a building is constructed. Sometimes, the most interesting stories belong to the land itself.

What might we discover within this quieter corner of historic Hanover?

Your Investigation Awaits

This is not a haunted house attraction or a scripted ghost tour. You'll be part of the investigation.

Guests will be divided into small groups and guided through the four locations by experienced paranormal investigators. You'll have opportunities to ask questions, use investigative equipment, test ideas, and examine any unusual experiences for yourself.

We encourage curiosity, thoughtful investigation, and an open mind. You don't have to believe in ghosts to appreciate the experience, and we welcome those who approach the paranormal with skepticism.

Most importantly, this evening is about more than the paranormal.

Investigate History. Help Preserve It.

This special fundraising investigation directly benefits the Hanover Tavern Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to historic preservation, restoration, educational programming, and community outreach.

100% of event proceeds benefit the Foundation.

By joining us, you're helping ensure that these remarkable places, and the stories connected to them, remain accessible to future generations.

Before You Arrive

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, please review the following information:

  • Equipment: You're welcome to bring your own paranormal investigation equipment. Our investigators will also have equipment available for group use. A flashlight is strongly recommended.
  • Audio recording: Don't have a dedicated recorder? Your cellphone works! We simply ask that you place it in airplane mode while recording.
