Nestled along the Monongahela River, just across the river from the Pittsburgh City limits. Homestead was an important part of the history of labor relations in the United States, gaining international notoriety with the Homestead Strike of 1892.

As the mills began to close post-WWII, when the need for steel declined, so did the population of Homestead by over half. The Homestead works Mill finally closed in 1986. In 1999 the Waterfront Mall was built and provided a step towards reclaiming population.

Today, the community is forged by a diverse collection of old buildings that have been reimagined into new spaces and businesses.

We invite you to explore this re-emerging neighborhood--in DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh style!

Consider enhancing your Homestead experience by indulging in some local libations from Voodoo Brewery and The Forge Urban Winery. Click here for details and to pre-purchase your tasting.

Please Note: To date, some building owners require facial masks for entry regardless of vaccination status - so please bring a mask to be used as needed. Otherwise, per current CDC guidelines, we do not require masks for fully-vaccinated persons on our tours, but will rely on “the honor system” as to whether attendees are vaccinated.
