If the intimacy of a listening room combined the good vibes of a juke joint sound good to you, call your boss and let the out-laws know you have a prior commitment to Mid-Week Service! on June 7th. Indulge in the finest locally distilled spirits and non-alcoholic cocktails from Valentine Distilling, all while experiencing the cozy and elegant ambiance of the Valentine Distilling event space.
Hosted by Jennifer Westwood and Dylan Dunbar - June 7th will feature the music and comedy of one of the Great Lakes favorite songwriters, Heywood Banks, as well as local favorites Dirk and Marci Feldman featuring guitarist David Roof.
Heywood Banks is simply one-of-a-kind, almost impossible to describe, with a style his very own. Equal parts genius and buffoon, this songwriter-comic-singer-poet-musician has become a cult hero and a pop icon, with a show that appeals to college students, stoners, businessmen, yuppies, rednecks, punks, kids or your grandmother".
Dirk Kroll composes songs that take you somewhere. Often compared to Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe and Tom Petty, Kroll is a singer-songwriter with a sound all his own featuring a multi-genre mixed bag with a "power-pop swagger". He was awarded Outstanding Rock/Pop Songwriter Award in both 2020, 2021 and a Special Honoree For Outstanding Rock Songwriter in 2022 by the Detroit Music Awards.
Jennifer Westwood and Dylan Dunbar hail from Detroit but have called the road home for much of their married life; performing as a duo and as Jennifer Westwood and the Handsome Devils.
Jennifer cut her teeth on gospel before hitting the gritty Detroit area bars that set her career in motion. Among her first “secular” performances, she backed up Detroit Soul singer Carl Carlton (Bad Mama Jama) at a local night club and was tapped for commercial work before moving on to pursue her own ambitions as an artist. Notably, she was invited recently by Grammy Winning Producer and Blue Note Records exec Don Was (Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt, Was, Not Was, Bob Weir and Wolf Bros) to perform in his All-Star Band after catching his ear.
Dylan Dunbar spent his teen years refining his chops in local blues joints, moving on to perform with W.C. Handy award winners Chef Chris and Johnny "Yard Dog" Jones, country artist Whitey Morgan and Grammy Award Winning Songwriter Kendell Marvel, providing direct support for acts like Chris Stapleton and Blackberry Smoke. His playing style and soulful slide work are evocative of Texas Blues and they heyday of Muscle Shoals, complimenting Jennifer's broad vocal range and unique sound that channels influences ranging from Linda Ronstadt to Big Mama Thorton.
