In an unprecedented year of global upheaval, Seattle-based Celtic Fusion band Ockham’s Razor offer their groundbreaking double album, Secrets & Silence.
Recorded from May through October, 2020, and released in July of 2021, the band — consisting of singer/lyricist/multi-instrumentalist Kris Clements, Daniel N. McManus on bass and mandolins, Tricia Riley on fiddle and strings, Kris McEwan on guitars, along with the talents of Dan Lile on drums — gave themselves a set of rules by which to write and arrange the material on the album. Every song an original written by the band, incorporates a traditional tune or theme into its accompaniment, and explores the various subgenres of rock music, including folk, country, glam, and funk.
Irish Music Magazine write “Secrets & Silence is a riveting and majestic parade of musical genius!” (Nov 2021).
The album is based loosely on the old Irish tale, Buile Shuibhne, about Suibhne mac Colmáin, king of the Dál nAraidi, who was driven insane by the curse of Saint Rónán Finn among other traditional tales. Additionally, while the songs on both discs can be enjoyed by themselves, together they help to tell a story, which is left to the listener to interpret.
Ockham’s Razor is a Seattle based Celtic fusion band that blends influences of Celtic and Irish tradition with rock, pop, gypsy, punk, jazz, bluegrass, and folk elements to carve out a unique and indelible niche in the Celtic folk genre. Hailed as both “Turbo Celtic” and “Ethno Punk,” since 2006 Ockham’s Razor has performed with notable bands like Young Dubliners, Enter the Haggis and Paperboys, and has even performed alongside Irish music luminaries, the Chieftains. With three studio albums and a live album under their belt, their music has been featured on radio and podcasts in places as far flung as India and Australia as well as the US, Canada, and the rest of North America, England, Scotland, Ireland and the rest of Europe. They have been featured on the Portland OR based PDXPosed and Alaska Airline’s In-Flight Entertainment Channel, Next Stop.
