On-Demand Viewing

Ever wonder what it might be like to live in a “tiny house?” DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh invites you into a local’s tiny house.

This 500-square-foot house was built by ex-cons and assembled in a warehouse on the Southside. It was driven through Pittsburgh at five miles per hour on an escorted, cross-city journey that took nine hours until it reached eight acres of woods off a dead-end road in the City of Pittsburgh.

Learn more about this tiny house, from the owner Diane Turnshek, and she invites us in for a virtual tour.

Presented by DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh / Hosted by Diane Turnshek. Diane is an astronomer in the CMU Department of Physics. She runs a lecture series at Allegheny Observatory and coordinates astronomy outreach in Western PA through her website Her love of both astronomy and science fiction won her finalist award in the international Mars City Design competition. Her TEDx Pittsburgh talk has 25K views. One of her tweets racked up 17.5 million views., she edits environmental SF/F/H anthologies: Triangulation: Dark Skies (about light pollution), Triangulation: Extinction (about the loss of biodiversity) and Triangulation: Habitats (about sustainable housing).
