Explore the vibrant tapestry of New York City's East Village spanning decades with readings by celebrated writers of its underground literary scene. Brought to you by ITNA, L.A. based publisher of queer and avant-garde literature founded in New York City in 2013, the event’s readers include Prix de Flore winner Bruce Benderson, the international bestselling author and co-founder of cult lit mag Between C & D Catherine Texier, New York Times lauded writer and art critic Travis Jeppesen, and novelist, ITNA founder, and Out Magazine tastemaker Christopher Stoddard.
BRUCE BENDERSON is a novelist, essayist and translator whose most well-known book, The Romanian: Story of an Obsession, was awarded the prestigious Prix de Flore in its French edition. Other publications include the essay collection Sex and Isolation, the novels Pacific Agony and User, and the story collection Pretending to Say No. He has written for The New York Times Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Libération and many other American and French publications. He regularly translates books from the French.
CATHERINE TEXIER is the author of six novels, including After David, Love Me Tender, Panic Blood, Victorine, and Russian Lessons. Her memoir Breakup was an international bestseller. Victorine won Elle Magazine’s “Readers’ Best Novel of the Year” award in 2004. Love Me Tender was a Village Voice bestseller in 1987. Her work has been translated into ten languages, and has been widely reviewed in the national and international press. She has taught at Columbia University, University of Nebraska, Brooklyn College, Rutgers University and Hofstra University, and now teaches at the New School. She was born and raised in Paris, and lives in New York.
TRAVIS JEPPESEN is the author of ten books, including Settlers Landing, The Suiciders, Victims, and See You Again in Pyongyang. He has contributed articles to The New York Times Magazine, Artforum, Mousse, Wall Street Journal, The Believer, Review of Contemporary Fiction, and other media. An accomplished art critic, he is the recipient of an Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant. His calligraphic and text-based artwork has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Wilkinson Gallery (London), Exile (Berlin), and Rupert (Vilnius), and featured in group exhibitions internationally. Jeppesen curates a living archive of his work at travisjeppesen.substack.com.
CHRISTOPHER STODDARD is the founder of ITNA and the author of four novels: The Virtuous Ones, At Night Only, Limiters, and White, Christian. His work has been praised Kirkus Reviews, The Paris Review, and PEN award-winner Edmund White. He lives in Los Angeles.
