Join us on MLK Day as we celebrate Roberto Clemente. His impact beyond baseball is best depicted by the inscription on his cenotaph, “Son of Carolina, Exemplary Citizen, Athlete, Philanthropist, Teacher, Hero of the Americas and the World.”

Clemente, a black Latino, regarded his career in baseball as an opportunity to help disadvantaged Latin Americans and serve as a role model to Latin American children and baseball players.

Incensed by the injustice, inequality and racism he witnessed in the United States, Clemente extended his humanitarian activism to the African American community.

Presented by DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh / Hosted by The Clemente Museum, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the life and legacy of Roberto Clemente.

The DOP Stories series, November 2020 - February 2021, is supported in part by: UPMC, Dollar Bank and The Benter Foundation
