Back by popular demand! This dynamic workshop—taught by William Hall, co-founder of BATS Improv and longtime student of Keith Johnstone—is a deep dive into the heart of what makes improvised scenes stick with us: compelling stories and partners who inspire each other.

Whether you’re a performer or educator, you’ll learn practical tools to:

  • Create scenes that build narrative momentum from the first offer.
  • Inspire your partner in every moment—through attention, delight, and trust.
  • Recognize and use alteration—moments of real change—to emotionally move your audience.
  • Make spontaneity your default, not your fallback.
  • (Yes, we’ll still play with status and masks, but always in service of story and connection.)

William brings decades of experience, direct training with Keith Johnstone, and a rare mix of humility and humor. His teaching creates a playful lab environment where risk is safe, curiosity is contagious, and discovery is the point.

💬 Here's what one participant had to say:

“I experienced two epiphanies as a result of the class that I'm working to integrate. The first had to do with the power and beauty of delighting your partners on stage. The second had to do with understanding what it means to be altered on stage, and the power such transitions have to move an audience. These are two of the most important concepts for me out of Keith Johnstone's work in terms of how to translate theory into actual scenes and drama. I really feel my skills as an improviser went up a quantum leap as a result of this class.”

If you’ve read Johnstone’s books—or meant to—and want to bring those ideas to life in performance, this is the workshop for you.

Let’s tell better stories. Together.
